Jack Leach will return home from England’s tour of South Africa after the skater’s fight with the disease.
Leach missed the final test against New Zealand in November with sepsis and did not appear in South Africa after suffering from gastroenteritis and influenza.
“Jack couldn’t get 100% fit,” said head coach Chris Silverwood.
“His approach has to be to improve, which is best served in England without distractions.”
England’s tour has been severely affected with 11 players suffering from illnesses, while Rory Burns and James Anderson have been ruled out for injuries.
Leach, who also has Crohn’s disease, will fly home Thursday.
“I have no doubt that he will be fit again in the medium term and I hope he will recover in time for our tour of Sri Lanka in March,” Silverwood added.
“He is a great boy with the team and he will miss his contagious personality and popularity.”
The third test starts at Port Elizabeth on Thursday, with the four-game series level at 1-1.
