Roy Hodgson confirms double injury blow ahead of Crystal Palace vs. West Ham United – Football.London

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has released an injury update on Cheikhou Kouyate ahead of tomorrow afternoon's clash against West Ham United.

The midfielder was forced to sit out the 2-0 win over London rivals Fulham last weekend because of an ankle problem picked up in the 1-1 draw away at Southampton three days earlier.

Speaking ahead of the game against the Cottagers, Hodgson was hopeful that the injury would not be serious and that he could have the Senegal international available for selection against the Hammers.

However, that's not the case.

Hodgson told reporters on Friday afternoon that Kouyate has not recovered from his club at Selhurst Park.

Furthermore, another former Hammer in central defender James Tomkins has also been ruled out of the game after failing to overcome this week.

"Well Kouyate has not recovered yet, it's not available," Hodgson confirmed. "Julian Speroni unfortunately picked up a minor injury so he was not available for selection.

"Pape Souare has been injured for a while now as Connor Wickham and the other injury news is unfortunate for us is James Tomkins.

"He's struggling all week with a calf strain that we were hoping to clear up in time for him / her, but that does not look like it will be the case."

As a result, Hodgson has a dilemma on his hands once again. In the absence of Kouyate last weekend he opted for a 4-4-2 formation with James McArthur partnering Luka Milivojevic in the middle of the park.

That then allowed Jeffrey Schlupp to take a position on the left – in place of the suspended Wilfried Zaha – and the front two was Christian Benteke and Jordan Ayew.

With Kouyate missing again, Hodgson was able to stick with that formation while in defense there could be a recall for Scott Dann alongside the in-form Mamadou Sakho.
