Roberto Firmino has revealed that Liverpool is looking to leave behind the disappointment of last season as they grow in confidence in a race for the Premier League title that says it is “in our hands.”
The Reds accumulated a record 97 club points throughout the 2018/19 campaign, but have not yet reached defending Manchester City champions, who retained their title by a single point after winning their last 14 straight games.
Liverpool’s travel was higher than any other side in the history of the top English category, apart from the 2018 and 2019 City totals, but after winning 20 of their first 21 Premier League games this period, the leaders undefeated by Jurgen Klopp now enjoy a mattress of 14 points at the summit.
His last success was assured through Firmino, who achieved the only goal of the game on his first visit to the newest Premier League field, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and the Brazilian is determined to go better after the near miss of the year past.
Said Firmino Premier League Productions – via liverpoolfc.com: “Last year we arrived at the Premier League position, it bothered us, of course, that we didn’t win.
“We have an opportunity this season, it is in our hands. We have to continue like this, working hard, following this path with the head in the right place and a winning mentality.
“We will take things game by game and keep this strong mentality of champions until the end and see where it leads.”
“Of course, we have more confidence this season. We have been winning all our games, this increases our confidence game by game. We have to continue with this momentum.”
