It’s Thursday, which means a new episode of all New York Rangers’ favorite podcast, “Up In The Blue Seats.”
Ron Duguay joins Post Mollie Walker sports writer to talk about the Rangers-Islanders game pair this week. Mollie talks about what islanders head coach Barry Trotz told him after the Rangers destroyed the islanders on Monday. Ron then surprises Mollie’s mother, Wendy, with a call. Wendy was obsessed with Ron when she was with the Watchers and was going to meet and greet each time she did them, even asking Ron for a kiss. This becomes absolute podcast gold.
Post Rangers beat the writer and columnist Larry Brooks and then showed up for his weekly place. The Hockey Hall of Fame member talks about the Rangers’ three-goal situation. Who will get the most game time? Is there any truth about Henrik Lundqvist’s commercial rumors surrounding the Colorado avalanche? Larry says he thinks Igor Shesterkin is the Rangers’ number 1 goalkeeper in the future. Brooks also talks about whether the Rangers-Islanders rivalry is in full force, and what to expect at the Colosseum on Thursday and the Garden next Tuesday. Larry also analyzes Tony DeAangelo’s improvement this season.
In “Ron recalls”, he gives the news that he will play again in a hockey game, at age 62. He will play in a professional hockey game with the Federal Prospects Hockey League next month, marking his fifth decade playing professional hockey, which unites Jaromir Jagr and Gordie Howe. Then tell a very funny story about Howe.
With the Rangers and Islanders playing three times in just over a week, there was no better guest than Bryan Trottier. The legend of the islanders, former Rangers head coach and member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, has four Stanley Cup titles with the islanders, two with the Bruins and one as an assistant coach with the avalanche.
Trottier talks about rivalry and looks back when his islanders faced the Ron Rangers in the 1970s and 1980s. They compare playing in Madison Square Garden and New York City against Nassau Coliseum and Long Island. The seven-time champion talks about comparisons with Wayne Gretzky, what he is doing now as an ambassador to the Penguins and tells his favorite Gordie Howe story.
