The Golden State Warriors have played most of this season without known names Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson in the mix. Since he suffered an ACL tear in his left knee injury in Game 6 of the 2019 Finals, Thompson was expected to be at least until the All-Star break.

Thompson spoke to the media Tuesday night during the Warriors’ defeat 124-97 against the Mavericks, explaining that his rehabilitation process is going well, but the return of this season is still unknown.

“Everything is going well,” Thompson said during Tuesday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks. “I mean, at least my suits are well suited. And it’s fun to see these guys fight. Obviously, I wish I could be there. It has been a long process. I haven’t stopped working since the third day after Game 6 of the finals. of 2019. You may not see me much, but I am working. I don’t know what will come this season, I would love to go out.

“I appreciate that Warrior fans show up every night at Chase [Center], just a testimony of the fan base we have. They know it has been a difficult season, but they know that the future is bright, so it is really good to be here. I have not seen you guys [media] in a long time. You’re welcome to be here today. Just strange, I know it’s a difficult part of the season. It is very rare that I am not dealing with them, but I am trying to make sure that this type of injury never happens again, so I will be very patient because I want to play at a high level until my last 30 years. “

According to ESPN’s Nick Friedell, there has always been some hope that Thompson will adapt this season. However, the team does not want to risk further injury to a player who signed a maximum contract last summer and is critical to the next phase of Golden State’s success. At the end of October, coach Steve Kerr said it was “unlikely” that Thompson would dress all this season.

Thompson, according to Friedell, has spent some time rehabilitating himself in Los Angeles and is beginning to be closer to the Warriors practice facilities as his rehabilitation increases. He has also been shooting with his teammates after practice.

“More than anything, it feels good to see him out there,” Kerr said before Tuesday’s game, according to Friedell. “And for him to feel it, as if he was really closer. Although he is still far from being on the floor, he is now far away compared to when this started. So he is quite far along the way, so I think he’s starting to feel that. The routine is changing now. He’s on the court much more, and I ask him to be much closer to our team. Both Steph [Curry] and Klay with whom I have talked about starting to engage and get involved with the group. New players need to meet those guys and vice versa. And they give some confidence to our group of young people only with their presence. So I think that is part of the next step here for both Steph and Klay. “

While Thompson hasn’t played in a game this season, Curry didn’t do much better in 2019-20. He was injured in the fourth game of the Warriors, suffering a broken left hand in the third quarter of a 121-110 loss to the Phoenix Suns. He had an injury in early November and has been out of alignment since then.

After reaching the last five finals, the Warriors have had problems this season due to those injuries, and others, to their renewed list. With a 9-33 mark, Golden State has the worst record in the NBA, having lost nine straight games and 14 of its last 18 games overall.

The Mavericks passed the Warriors on Tuesday night.

Thompson will have his jersey number 1 retired in Washington state on Saturday, traveling by owner Joe Lacob’s private plane to Pullman, Washington, for the part-time ceremony when the Cougars receive the state of Oregon.

“I haven’t returned in about five years,” Thompson said. ” Go back and see the people I really grew up with, the community that really hugged me, is very nostalgic and it’s really great because that was my dream when I left Pullman. I didn’t think it would ever come true and it did, so it’s exciting. ”

Warrior striker Draymond Green recently had his Jersey retired in the state of Michigan. Curry will join Thompson in Washington for the ceremony, which is something that delights Thompson.

“It’s really great,” Thompson said of Curry’s assistance. “We have gone through many highs together. Many lows. We have played at the highest level of the game until the NBA Finals and international competition. And he has been my teammate with more time, so I appreciate he will come. Someday , maybe I’ll do it with Davidson too, if he has to get that title. “
