James Maddison transfer newest: Leicester battle to keep the star of Spurs – Mirror Online

Leicester is preparing to fight to keep James Maddison in the middle of Spurs' interest prior to a possible audition this weekend.

Maddison is a huge success with five goals and four assists in 23 Premier League games since a £ 24 million move from Norwich in June last year.

The shape of the attacking bait has more than doubled its price tag and has aroused interest from Tottenham.

Spurs, which organizes Leicester on Sunday, wants to recruit more British British players.

They look at attacking midfielders as Christian Eriksen would leave because the Dane's contact is in 2020. The North Londoners are long-term admirers of Maddison, dating back to his days in Coventry, the club of his hometown.

Maddison has been so impressive this season for Leicester City

But the foxes are not in the mood to leave Maddison, 22, this summer after only 12 months, during which he was also summoned by English seniors in October last year.

Now Mirror Sport understands conversations are planned to give Maddison a salary increase and tie him on extended terms outside his current deal until 2023.

Leicester did the same last summer when Manchester United came in for England after the World Cup, ace Harry Maguire.

His form has been seen by British manager Gareth Southgate

But Leicester's title winning captain Wes Morgan was told he had to wait for contract negotiations, despite his deal being exhausted.
Morgan, who turned 35 last month, lost his starting place and his contract expires in the summer.

Leicester recently issued new terms to Marc Albrighton, Hamza Choudhury and Daniel Amartey.

But a possible one-year extension for Morgan seems increasingly unlikely.

Boss Claude Puel said: "I think it's not the time when the players are at the end of their contract.

"We will see later in the season because it is important for the club to keep our focus on our next games and make the right decisions for all players."

Mauricio Pochettino needs fresh faces this summer

Morgan started 17 of City & # 39; s 25 Premier League matches this season.

But he seems to be back on the bench on Sunday after Puel Jonny Evans and Maguire started for him for the previous two games.

City also has many other young promising center-backs such as Caglar Soyuncu, 22, and Filip Benkovic, 21, who has been impressed on loan at Celtic.

Last month City Josh Knight, 21, Peterborough United and Darnell Johnson, 20, sent to Hibernian.
