Fans of the Arsenal will love what Rob Holding did during the Gunners' pre-season training

2019 has been a year to forget for Rob Holding so far, but the defender is certainly making up for lost time.

The 23-year-old left the start of December with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, but resumed light training towards the end of the 2018/19 season.

It is reported that Holding may be present in one of the last friendly matches of the previous Arsenal season, and with that the defender is working hard on the training ground to show Unai Emery that he is ready.

While fitness work and defense are the key areas that Holding wants to show, it has also proven to have an ace up its sleeve.

In a video posted on the Arsenal's Twitter account, Holding kicked the ball from the flag and managed to find the back of the net.

It may have been a delicate moment in pre-season training, but it could be a great season for Rob Holding.

It has been suggested that the 23 year old could be a potential successor to Laurent Koscielny as skipper of the Arsenal, and Unai Emery said he is certainly a contender to be one of the five leaders selected in the Gunners team.

Emery said: "I want an English player in these five captains.

"Last year (Granit) Xhaka, Mesut (Ozil) and Nacho (Monreal) worked as captains, but after Aaron Ramsey and Petr Cech left – and perhaps Laurent Koscielny – I will want more.

"An English player raised in our academy can understand the English spirit and the values of the Arsenal: these are the qualities and more (we want)".

He added: "We lost some players with great experience and a lot of time in England and Arsenal like Cech and Ramsey, we also lost Koscielny.
