Everton news and transfers RECAP – Richarlison opens, Southgate on Lookman, Tosun back to fire

Viewer who is not performing is a cause for concern

Dominic King writes in the Mail: The image remains new in the mind. On a riotous afternoon in Goodison Park, when the defense of Manchester City was looted, Ademola glanced at Lookman's knees and spread his arms in front of Gwladys Street.

Everton was magnificent and spurred Pep Guardiola's game 4-0.

Lookman, who had just arrived from Charlton for £ 11 million, placed the brilliance of the execution in stoppage time with a throbbing finish. He was only 60 seconds on the field.

Lookman was signed for the future, but the immediate impact suggested that he would become an exciting part of the present. Only the special young people have the opportunity to do what he did on Sunday in January 2017.

When he looked at Lookman in the remote Latvian town of Jelgava on Tuesday, there was no excitement. As he worked for the under-21 & # 39; s of England, running dead and offering little, you only felt anxiety.

You wanted Lookman to make an impact, score and see him laugh again, but the more he struggled, the more it became inevitable that he would not see the 90 minutes. He left Aidy Boothroyd without any choice but to replace him.

& # 39; He was nowhere near, & # 39; Boothroyd said diplomatically. & # 39; He is a very talented player, but if there is a lot of speculation, will he stay? Is he going? – it can come into the head of a player. He did not play the games.

& # 39; It is good that he left and got 60 minutes. We talk about getting game time, but one of the things they have to do is stay focused on what they do. Sometimes it can be a good idea to join us. I hope this is the case for Ade. & # 39;

The speculation to which Boothroyd was referring, of course, was the persistent pursuit of RB Leipzig to him in the summer. Everton was adamant that he was not for sale and Marco Silva spoke regularly about the importance of Lookman.

However, there comes a time when words mean nothing and that actions are all that matter. Over the past month at the Finch Farm, Lookman has made it clear that he would rather be elsewhere and patience is not unlimited.

He is obviously restless. Lookman had problems adjusting to life on Merseyside and his self-confidence was confused in the short period he worked with Sam Allardyce – he was desperate for opportunities, but the former manager was not convinced.

RB Leipzig offered a sanctuary with a first loan in January and if ever the satisfaction of the field in figures on the field was mirrored, the figures of his spell in Germany scrambled to his career at Everton.

Since January 2017, Lookman has played 916 minutes in all competitions in 25 games, scored three goals and provided one assist; five months in Germany yielded five goals and three assisted from just 575 minutes.

In the summer, Everton never believed in Leipzig's pursuit of Lookman because they never made an offer that gave Goodison's hierarchy reason to think they should do business. They also believe that he can succeed.

For that to happen, there must be commitment on all sides. Everton must recall his conviction, but Lookman must recognize that he must also take responsibility and forget Leipzig. Living on what could have been possible does not make sense.

What is also not logical is seeing the fortune of a young player. Lookman, a winner of the Under-20 World Cup, should be ready to take an exciting step forward with his club and country, because skill is not a problem.

Instead, there is concern everywhere. What Lookman did for England in a Jelgava was no different than two recent replacements for Everton against Huddersfield and Valencia. It is time for him to take steps to change the story.
