Edmonton Oilers vs Nashville Predators (7pm MT, Sportsnet)

Leon Draisaitl was recruited third overall by the Edmonton Oilers on June 27, 2014. He made his NHL debut a year later, but since he was recruited, the Nashville Predators have absolutely dominated the Edmonton Oilers.

Nashville is 14-1 against the Oilers since October 29, 2014. Pekka Rinne has won 12 consecutive starts. Juuse Saros It’s 2-1 against the Oilers, but their two wins were bleached. Regardless of who started with a goal recently for the Predators, they’ve dominated the Oilers, and Edmonton needs to reverse that trend tonight.

His only victory over the Preds in the last 15 games was on the 23rd birthday of Draisaitl last season. Edmonton won 5-3 at Nashville on October 27, 2018 and Draisaitl scored twice.

So, maybe the “birthday power” is the only thing that can help the Oilers. No Oilers player was born on January 14, but a young man named Connor McDavid He turned 23 yesterday. McDavid has only played a game on his real birthday. He got two assists on his 21st birthday in Las Vegas two years ago when the Oilers won 3-2 in overtime.

McDavid is a unique case, so perhaps his power of Bday extends one more day (at this point, the Oilers need any extra boost they can get when they play Predators). He played twice the day after his birthday, on January 14, and the Oilers won both games. They defeated Calgary 2-1 in 2017 and defeated Buffalo 7-2 last year.

It will probably take more than McDavid’s birthday power to give the Oilers a victory over the Predators, but I asked the captain what made the Predators such a tough opponent.

“They have been a good team. They have a solid goal. Their D is good, they are active in the game and they act offensively and their front group is solid from top to bottom. We have to play a simple game at home as we have it in the way. We have to be better at home, “McDavid said.

Head coach Dave Tippett has not been here to dominate Nashville, but regardless of who the opponent is, Tippett was clear about what the team must do to give himself the chance to win.

“We are looking to play a really strong game of checks tonight,” Tippett said. “We had a good conversation about how our team needs to play better. There are some areas of our game that we have to improve.

“We want to play a better game of checks. The Montreal game was loose. The Calgary game I thought we could have proved much better than we did. We have to play a strong game of checks tonight. That is our mentality. We have talked about this. The stretch unit and the second half of the season, the games are going to be tight and every play that happens in a game counts. You better be willing to verify. You better be willing to play a really good and strong bidirectional game. That is the balance we are looking for, ”Tippett continued.

Archibald will replace the suspended Zack Kassian. He has played with McDavid a few games before, making it a natural fit. Predators do not have a line on which you can concentrate. The four lines contribute, so the first two lines of the Oilers should focus on both strong defensive moves and creating offensives.

The Preds are very good at 5 × 5, beating their opposition 107-84. His weakness is in special teams. His PK has allowed the second highest number of PP goals, 36, while his power has 26 goals compared to the Oilers 41.

Jujhar Khaira sits back and Patrick Russell He will play his first game since December 27. It is likely to be paired with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in the second PK unit. Often, Tippett likes to put the McDavid line right after a penalty, and with Archibald being a PK guy, we could see Leon Draisaitl get a turn with # 97 then or possibly Joakim Nygard or Sam Gagner.

GAME DAY FORECAST NOT SO OBVIOUS: Patrick Russell scores his first NHL goal in his 37th NHL game and 10 days after his 27th birthday, for another birthday connection.
