Cronulla and Gold Coast have softened the speculations surrounding a possible movement of Andrew Fifita to Tians, as reported by The daily Telegraph.

On Wednesday it emerged that the Sharks could try to unload Fifita in a move to help ease their salary cap situation, which could help facilitate Jai Arrow’s transfer to the South this season.

The NRL rumor factory went live after Mitchell signed with the Rabbitoh earlier this week, as several players were linked to rival clubs.

But Cronulla coach John Morris has stated that Fifita was not in the market, stating that the club is looking for a replacement for Matt Prior.

Therefore, Fifita’s departure would be meaningless.

“We are not pushing anyone out the door,” Morris said.

Gold Coast’s head of culture and performance, Mal Meninga, was also surprised by Fifita’s talk.

“But that’s new to me,” said Meninga. “It’s a beauty, but no, we will stay with Jai by 2020. There is no progress to be honest with you.”
