Conor McGregor has admitted that he was drinking during the UFC 229 fight the week before his main fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov.
There have been many complaints in recent months about why McGregor was so out of the game, or at least it seemed that way, when he faced “The Eagle” in Las Vegas. While the Irish may be focusing their attention on Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone this week, it definitely seems that Khabib is still at the forefront of his mind.
During a recent interview with ESPN’s Ariel Hewlani, McGregor went into details about some of the things that went wrong before the fight.
When asked when he last drank, this was his answer.
“A couple of months ago (since I drank),” McGregor said (via MMA Junkie). Three or four months ago, maybe. … I was drinking all week of fighting last time (for Nurmagomedov). “
McGregor then went into details about the UFC 229 fightfield.
“I had people hiding in a hotel in that part of the world (Dagestan / Russia), and called and organized a fight and called and went down to the gym and had a full-fledged fight – no head guard, gloves that were small.” said McGregor. “A fight. I would win, have a war, win and knock out the guy, then I would go and celebrate. Then I returned in three days, without doing what I should have been doing, without living the life I should have done. “
“I’m not going back there,” McGregor said. “I am in a better place. I have made mistakes and I have been man enough to admit and correct them, and that is what I have done. It may not be perfect, but with a good dream and a full belly, I am very close.” .
