The French have been linked with a move to Barcelona and Real Madrid in recent months
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu revealed that the Catalan giants tried to sign Paul Pogba in 2016 but "could not afford" the Juventus midfielder.
Instead, the French returned to Manchester United for a world record of 89 million pounds to mark the start of Jose Mourinho's performance at Old Trafford.
Pogba was strongly tied to a move to Blaugrana last summer, with Bartomeu refusing to exclude a move for the director before the start of the season.
The 26-year-old has now been listed as a potential target for Zinedine Zidane, head of Real Madrid, who has been promised a costly overhaul of the current Los Blancos star crop.
Pogba recently flirted with speculation that tied him to a transfer to the Spanish capital, claiming that playing for the European champions is "a dream for anyone".
Bartomeu, in view of the club's clash in the Champions League and Manchester United, admitted that LaLiga players have been in the mix for Pogba's signing before returning to the Premier League.

He told ESPN: "In the summer of 2015, Paul Pogba was playing in Turin and we simply told Juve that if one day they decided to sell the player, we would be interested.
"When they sold the player, they told us what the offer would be and we couldn't afford that amount of money at that time.
"So he went to United, and he's doing them better as a team because he's one of the stars of the football world right now."

When asked if Pogba could still move to Real or Barca in Spain, Bartomeu declined to comment, saying: "I prefer not to talk about players from other teams because I'm sure there are also Barca players who can improve other teams.
"What I have to acknowledge is that United, in recent years, has created a great group, good players that are coming.
"I am sure that next season they will be candidates for the Premier League and this year for the Champions League."
