An arrest warrant was issued against Odell Beckham Jr. after the Cleveland Browns catcher allegedly contacted the back of a security officer while celebrating the Louisiana State National Championship on Monday night.
“We can confirm that an arrest warrant was issued for a simple battery charge,” a New Orleans Police Department representative told TMZ on Thursday.
Beckham, a first-round LSU team in 2014, celebrated with the current Tigers players in their locker room at the Superdome after their 42-25 victory over Clemson in the game for the College Football Playoff title. In a video that has circulated on social media, Beckham seems to hit the back of an officer who was talking to offensive lineman Damien Lewis.
When the officer confronts him after the alleged incident, Beckham seems to start rapping and dancing right in front of the man.
Initially, the authorities wanted an arrest warrant for a misdemeanor of sexual assault against Beckham, but that request was rejected by a judge, reports nola.com. Beckham faces up to six months in jail and a $ 1,000 fine if convicted.
Regarding another alleged post-game incident involving Beckham, LSU issued a statement Wednesday saying it has been in contact with the NCAA and the Southeast Conference on the “apparent cash [that] It may also have been delivered to LSU student athletes ”by the NFL star after the victory.
