Another former Spurs star talking to Middlesbrough

Former Spursioen Robbie Keane has confirmed that he is talking to Middlesbrough about becoming their new assistant manager.

Keane made 298 appearances scoring 120 goals in two separate spells on White Hart Lane, and is currently Mick McCarthy & # 39; s assistant with the Republic of Ireland.

But the move to the Riverside comes after the news that former Spurs teammate Jonathan Woodgate will take charge of the champion club following Tony Pullis' departure.

The 38-year-old has yet to accept Boro's offer, but joining the North East club does not affect his role as number 2 in Ireland.

"I was asked, I met them yesterday and I flew to Dublin this morning," Keane told the Irish Mirror.

"They want me to come in as an assistant manager and it's up to me to think about it. It won't affect me here, which is crucial.

"I spoke to Mick McCarthy about it and said that under no circumstances would I take it if I had to leave Ireland and he was happy with that.

"He said," you are not f ****** g to leave here. "It was his actual words, so it's up to me, I love working with Ireland and Mick was great.

"I have been so busy with the games in Ireland and I have not really talked about it with my wife.

"I flew to the Middlesbrough president yesterday and we had a good meal and conversation. It's exciting, but the most important thing is that I don't leave Ireland.

"It has gone so fast, I have known Woody for 20 years and he is a good friend, but I have to think about it.

"I saw on the news a few weeks ago that he would get the job, but I never thought he would call me. But he called me first, so I mustn't be a bad guy!"

And when asked if he could combine the two roles, the former Liverpool man was final in his response.

"It can work 100%," he said.

"Management is my long-term plan, but I don't get involved." Marcello Lippi said on vacation last year & # 39; Robbie, don't rush, you have 40 years of management & # 39 ;. "
