Madrid is sending its most modern frigate, the “Cristóbal Colón,” to Cyprus to help secure the EU’s external borders. But the head of government continues to stick to his sharp criticism of the Israeli-American attack on Iran.
After its sharp criticism of the attack on Iran by the USA and Israel, which is controversial under international law, Spain is now increasing its military presence in the Eastern Mediterranean – although expressly not to support American-Israeli operations. Madrid is sending its navy’s most modern frigate, the “Cristóbal Colón,” to the EU state of Cyprus to help secure the EU’s external border, according to the Defense Ministry.
“By sending the Cristóbal Colón, Spain shows its commitment to the defense of the European Union and its eastern border,” said the ministry in Madrid. The frigate made its way to the Mediterranean together with the French nuclear aircraft carrier “Charles de Gaulle” from the Baltic Sea, where the ships took part in NATO maneuvers. According to information from Madrid, the ships are expected to reach their destination in the eastern Mediterranean around March 10th.
