In the last meeting of the Thüngen municipal council, the question was no longer whether a photovoltaic system should be built on the roof of the elementary school, but rather a larger or smaller solution was discussed. Ultimately, the decision was unanimously for a system with 63 modules and an output of 20 kilowatt peak (kWp).

There were good reasons for the solar power: Despite many savings due to the ongoing energy renovation, the school building will continue to have an enormous power requirement, not least because of many technical and digital innovations. The expert Stefan Scherpf from the engineering office JHS put this at 90 kilowatts at full load. During this time, the energy from the roof can significantly reduce electricity costs from the grid. In the afternoon, on weekends or during the holidays, the domestic electricity is usually sufficient and the excess can also be fed into the grid, whereby the feed-in tariff of 9.18 cents per kilowatt hour is not exactly generous.

Favorable calculation

Nevertheless, Scherpf presented the local council with a very cheap calculation. The plant with a 20 kilowatt peak costs 37,800 euros, could generate 19,000 kilowatts of electricity annually and would have paid for itself in 14 years. Then it generates profits for the community. Accumulator storage did not seem sensible to the municipal councils, since they would be too expensive and would be exhausted too quickly under full load.

However, a toad had to be swallowed, because the current line conditions, according to Energie-Karlstadt, cannot absorb the electricity generated. An extra line must therefore be dug to a nearby handover point, which costs another 50,000 euros. However, this amount can be taken over by the household of the Thüngen energy supply company, and the transfer point will then also be available for future solar systems in the neighborhood. The costs for the solar system on the school roof are included in the overall building renovation concept.

In addition, Mayor Lorenz Strifsky announced that the municipality has been receiving a trade tax amount of around EUR 100,000 from the operators of the area solar plant on Heßlarer Berg since 2018. Strifsky later broken down the exact figures: 262,000 flowed into 2016, in the following years it was 73,000, 132,000 and 73,000 euros. 132,000 euros are expected in the current year.

New line is laid

Further decisions had to be taken for the general renovation. The wastewater pipe to the public sewage system is not sufficiently dimensioned with a diameter of 150 millimeters, 250 millimeters are necessary. Therefore, a 17 meter long trench line must be created in the area of the spring road. The company Siegler Bau from Lohr is commissioned for this work with a gross cost of 20,600 euros.

The award of a blow-in insulation as heat protection and a trade for masonry renovation was postponed. Before the decision was made, the market councilors, in particular Bernd Müller, asked for more detailed information as to what effects this type of external insulation could have on the building physics, such as dew point, condensation and mold. These questions should be resolved by the next meeting.

The Albert Mahr company from Würzburg charged 4,700 euros for the delivery of firefighting protective clothing and equipment. For the installation of an underground hydrant in Bahnhofstrasse, 10 200 euros had to be approved afterwards.
