While the immediate concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic have receded for many, the lingering effects continue to impact a notable portion of the population. Estimates suggest that around 10% of those infected with COVID-19 experience long-term health consequences, often referred to as Long-COVID. To address these ongoing challenges, especially those related to respiratory health, the VHS (Volkshochschule) Münster is offering a specialized workshop designed for individuals with Long-COVID, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease (COPD), or asthma.
According to the world Health Organization (WHO), COPD affects millions worldwide, and respiratory ailments are a leading cause of disability and death. This initiative by VHS Münster aims to provide practical tools and techniques to improve the quality of life for those affected.
Workshop Details: Breathing and Singing for Enhanced Respiratory Function
The workshop, titled “Breathing and Singing Exercises in Long/Post-COVID, COPD, or Asthma,” focuses on empowering participants to improve their respiratory capacity. according to VHS Münster, the course aims to help individuals gain better control over their breathing, both during inhalation and exhalation.This extends beyond singing, offering benefits for everyday activities and overall well-being.
Led by a professional soprano and experienced singing trainer, the workshop will take place on Saturday, May 17th, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in room 323. Participants will learn and practice a variety of effective breathing and singing exercises, designed to enhance the mobility of respiratory muscles, alleviate dry coughs, improve breath control, and strengthen the diaphragm. The instructor will ensure that the exercises are tailored to avoid overexertion.

Studies have shown that singing enlarged the lung volume for asthma, COPD and long-covid sufferers. Hormone distributions also improved the well -being of the patients.
