Sevastov loses Cannabis in dramatic battle: draw in Latvian-Estonian duel

In the second racket fight between the two countries, Sevastov (WTA 43rd) gave in to Cannabis (WTA 99) with 6-7 (1: 7), 6-2, 5:10.

The game started with Sevastova’s two “broken” opponent’s servings – 4-0, but immediately Kanepi won a point, serving Sevstova – 4-2 in favor of the Latvian tennis player, but after a while, playing better and better – also a draw – 5-5.

Seta’s fate was decided in Taiwan. The Latvian athlete lost the first point of his service, and the opponent achieved 3-0 with his service, but then also five set balls, of which the first was used – 7-6 (7: 1).

The Latvian tennis player started the second set better, winning the game and serving the opponent. In the fifth game, Sevastova had two consecutive break balls, but they failed to use them – 3-2.

The seventh game was very long, which ended about 15 minutes later with a break with Kanepi’s shot in the aisle and 5-2 in favor of Sevastova. The next game was won quickly – 6-2, and the third set was secured – Taiwan.

The break started with 2-0 in favor of the Estonian. She achieved 3-1 by hitting the ball against the net rope and falling to the side of the Latvian player’s court.

After 1-9 four match balls Sevastova managed to play, but it did not save from the loss.

An Estonian tennis player had also previously won both matches. At the end of April 2010, she was superior in the quarterfinals of the 100,000th ITF tournament in France in France with 7-5, 6-2, and in February 2011 in the tournament in Paris – with 7-6 (7: 5), 6: 2.

On the second day of the competition, there are six games scheduled for Thursday – four singles and two doubles.

Kārlis Ozoliņš (ATP 1333., ITF Jun. 6.) and Jirgens Zops (ATP 540.) will take the field next.

After the second single, there will be a women’s doubles, the participants of which are not yet known.

The second part of Thursday’s competition will start at 6 pm, in the first match of which Latvian national team leader Ernests Gulbis (ATP 162) and Vladimirs Ivanovs (ATP 738) will meet, and then the first rackets for women from both countries – Alona Ostapenko (WTA 41st) and Anete Kontaveita (WTA 22).

The duel between the two neighboring countries will end in a mixed doubles match, the participants of which are not yet known.

It has already been reported that in the first match of the day, the 1333rd rocket of the world single-player rank Ozoliņš convincingly defeated Ivanov, who ranks 738th in the world rankings, with 6-1, 6-3.

In the second game, Anastasia Sevastova, who is ranked 43rd in the world, lost 1-6, 2-6 to Estonia’s first racket Anete Kontaveita (WTA 22nd).

Gulbis and Kārlis Ozoliņš, who are not included in the doubles rankings, beat Estonians Vladimir Ivanov (ATP 522) and Jirgen Zopa (ATP 1419) in the third match with 7-6 (7: 1), 6-4.

After the ceremonial opening ceremony of the match, Latvia’s first racket Ostapenko (WTA 41st) lost Cannabis (WTA 99) in the fourth game with 3-6, 4-6.

The tournament includes a total of 11 games – eight singles and three doubles, one of which will be a mixed doubles. Five games were played on Wednesday, but there will be six duels on Thursday, the last of which will be a mixed doubles.

The Latvian national team includes Alona Ostapenko (WTA 41st), Anastasija Sevastova (WTA 43rd), Ernests Gulbis (ATP 162) and Kārlis Ozoliņš (ATP 1133., ITF Jun. 6). This year, this quartet was at the core of the Latvian national team in the Federation Cup and Davis Cup matches.

Estonia is represented by the strongest missiles of the northern neighbors Anete Kontaveita (WTA 22), Kaija Kanepi (WTA 99), Jürgen Zops (ATP 540) and Vladimir Ivanov (ATP 738).

The professional tennis season will resume in August, but until then, tennis players will participate in various demonstration tournaments.
