In the Eckernförde road maintenance department there was the symbolic starting signal for winter service with Minister Madsen (middle) and LBV director Quirmbach (2nd from right).
Even though the first frost probably won’t come until November, the country is already prepared: “All 22 road maintenance departments in the country with their over 500 road attendants are ready to get us through the cold and dark season as safely and as slip-free as possible
“, said Transport Minister Claus Ruhe Madsen. Together with Frank Quirmbach, Director of the Schleswig-Holstein State Office for Road Construction and Transport (LBV.SH) he gave the symbolic starting signal for winter service at the Eckernförde road maintenance depot.
Vehicle fleet and salt are ready
He added that up to 430 vehicles (259 our own and 171 vehicles from contracted companies) and almost 20,000 tons of road salt are available almost around the clock. In addition, the state company with over 31 salt storage facilities in Schleswig-Holstein is well prepared to deal with slippery roads.
For safe streets
The LBV.SH is responsible for around 7,630 kilometers of federal, state and district roads. According to Quirmbach, in wintry weather there is an emergency call-out service for all major roads from 3:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. “Annual costs have averaged just under ten million euros over the last five years
“, he said. Salt consumption was 19,200 tons, and an additional 5,700 tons of brine were used.
Caution and consideration
But everyone who participates in traffic can also make an important contribution to safety. “Whether winter tires, an attentive and foresighted driving style and always enough safety distance – this is essential in winter
“Madsen emphasized.”And please be considerate of your LBV colleagues who are out and about in the ice and snow for all of us.
“
