Budget documents from the Trump administration have provided insight into the priorities of the proposed new agency, the Administration for a Healthy America, which is designed to focus on preventing chronic disease.
The Administration for a Healthy America is expected to consolidate several federal agencies and existing programs. However, the budget documents suggest that some initiatives previously cut from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) through a reduction in force (RIF) in April may be reinstated with less funding, or not at all.
according to the agency’s first budget justification to Congress, longstanding funding for tobacco control, nutrition and obesity, school health, heart disease and stroke, diabetes, and cancer prevention and control at the CDC are slated for elimination.
“Longstanding funding lines at the CDC…are among those that are zeroed out and slated for elimination.”
