REPLAY. Limoges 2021 French Disabled Swimming Championship

The Aquapolis in Limoges Métropole hosted the French handisport swimming championship, the ultimate opportunity for swimmers to qualify for the Tokyo Paralympic Games. No less than 6 French records have crowned disabled swimming and the 2nd city of Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

For the athletes, it was the achievement of years of effort whose competitiveness and adversity are enhanced for some people by the Olympic qualifiers.

Organized by the CAPO Swimming Limoges, in collaboration with the Regional Handisport Committee Nouvelle-Aquitaine and under the aegis of French Handisport Federation, this competition was the last stage before the Tokyo Paralympic Games (August 24 to September 5, 2021).

France 11th in Europe in Portugal

The French disabled swimming team ranked 11e in the general classification of ChampionshipEurope World Par Swimming held on the Portuguese island of Madeira.

With 3 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze medals or 15 medals, France has shown its willingness to get in shape in the competition for the Olympic meetings in Tokyo.

All eyes will be on 4 athletes who have qualified for the next Olympics:

  • Laurent Chardard, European champion in the 100m backstroke and vice-champion of Europe in the 50m butterfly

  • Ugo Didier : two gold medals (400m freestyle and 200m medley including the European record and two silver medals (100m backstroke and 100m freestyle)
  • Anaelle Roulet : European vice-champion in the 100m backstroke

  • Alex Portal, 200m silver medalist
