The National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec) announced that National Identity Documents (DNI) that have expired or are about to expire will remain valid from July 1 to August 23.
Citizens who have a National Identity Document (DNI) that has expired or is about to expire may use it until the end of the year to identify themselves when its presentation is required. This is provided by Chief Resolution No. 000133-2021 / JNAC / RENIEC, published today in the official newspaper El Peruano.
A previous rule, published on December 21, 2020, extended the validity of expired DNIs for as long as the State of Emergency decreed by the National Government lasts. The new Reniec resolution extends the validity of the DNI until June 30, 2021.
Thus, citizens do not have difficulties when carrying out civil, commercial, administrative or judicial acts. This is the fourth time that such measure has been adopted. First, on March 17, October 29, December 29 and June 30, so the DNI is currently valid until August 23.
The decision is also intended to facilitate the identification of citizens in all cases in which, by legal mandate, the DNI must be presented. It also seeks to avoid the crowding of people in the reopened Reniec premises, whose operational capacity has been reduced by complying with biosafety protocols.
Meanwhile, the Reniec It will continue to operate on its regular schedule and with the capacity provided according to biosafety protocols. He also indicated that his virtual platform has launched new online services.
It should be noted that it is currently possible to renew a DNI and register a birth without going to an agency, in addition to requesting a duplicate and rectification of DNI data, and obtaining certificates and copies of registration records.
