Red Hair Shades: Find Your Perfect Tone

by Archynetys Entertainment Desk

Whether it’s Zendaya, Dua Lipa, SZA or Chappell Roan – anyone who is self-respecting in Hollywood dyes their hair a deep shade of red and shines with the carpet of the same color. There is a good reason why so many people reach for the color pot: dark shades of red suit almost every skin tone and harmonize with every eye color. You just have to know what to look out for. Hairstylist Simone Rigliaco knows what she’s looking for and shares important tips on how you can get involved in the Hollywood trend.

This is how you find the ideal shade of red

Depending on what your complexion looks like, you can adjust the shade of red: “Very light, cool types look particularly harmonious with cooler red tones,” explains the hairdresser. He recommends Merlot or a deep reddish brown. If your undertone is rather warm, things look different: “Dark copper and tones with orange pigments create radiance.” For darker complexions, Rigliaco recommends intense, rich red tones: “Deep red nuances with warmth play beautifully with the skin in contrast.” If the tone matches your complexion, the color of your eyes is no longer important.

Subtle change and perfect mix

This is why the red palette is also a long-time favorite among customers in Switzerland: “Dark red is in high demand, especially in the cooler seasons, while Merlot or copper brown are very popular.” The hairdresser can imagine why: “Many people want a change without being too conspicuous or going completely blonde.” He describes dark red as the perfect mix of statement and elegance.

Attention: Red needs a lot of care

So far, so good – unfortunately, red as a hair color comes with a major disadvantage. “Red is one of the molecules that washes out the fastest,” explains the expert. There are a few tips to counteract this: “If you use a color-friendly shampoo without strong sulfates, you are doing a lot right. It helps to wash your hair with less heat.” He also recommends paying attention to UV protection and regularly using color-refreshing conditioners or glosses – “you need a refresher every four to six weeks.” Rigliaco says: “If you want to wear red in the long term, you have to be prepared to invest a little more in hair care.”
