Centrales Nantes recently hosted an event aimed at showcasing the diverse career paths and research endeavors of its PhD graduates and doctoral candidates. The initiative, part of the “Month of Diversity,” provided a platform for these individuals to share their experiences, insights, and the opportunities available within the research community.

A Focus on Centralian Women in Research

A key aspect of the event was highlighting the contributions of Centralian women in research professions. This aligns with broader efforts to promote gender equality in STEM fields, where women are still underrepresented. According to the national Science Foundation, women make up onyl 28% of the science and engineering workforce.

  • Louise Piecuch: A PhD student specializing in AI and medical imaging. Her research involves multimodal analysis of lower limb imaging using MRI and 3D ultrasound at Sims du Centrale Nantes.   • Oriane Thiery: A PhD in Computer Sciences for Medical Imaging at the LS2N Lab. Her work centers on predicting treatment responses in cancer patients using AI and graph methods, also within the Sims of the LS2N team at Centrale Nantes.
  • Engineer in Maths & Computer Science: Polyglot with a thesis in computer science at the Inria center in Paris and registered at Sorbonne University. Works on improving the automatic translation of texts published by Internet users.

The event was organized by Lena Harikiopoulos – Cordova, an administrator and advocate for gender equality within the Centrale Nantes Alumni network. As the pilot of the 50-50 project “Act for the equality of Central Nantes Alumni” and godmother of the incoming promotion 2024, she is deeply committed to fostering a more inclusive and equitable environment within the institution.

This event marks the 2nd edition of the “Month of Diversity” at Centrale Nantes, highlighting the institution’s ongoing commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion within its community.
