Portugal risks wave of bankruptcies with end of pandemic support | Covid-19

The unprecedented arsenal of measures to support companies launched by the State during the pandemic meant that, in the year of the greatest economic downturn in the last century, the number of business failures in 2020 was the lowest in recent years. The risk now is that, as the defaults, credit guarantees and employment support are being withdrawn, several companies that are on the verge of survival will start to declare bankruptcy. And data available for Portugal are already starting to show a slight increase in the number of company closures, a sign of what could be coming in the future.
