Strengthening Regional Health Through Food: The “active Cities” Charter
The Agglomeration of the Pays de l’Or has reaffirmed its dedication to public health by renewing its “active cities” charter within the national “health nutrition” program. This commitment, formalized on Wednesday, May 7th, coincides with the official labeling of the region’s Territorial Food Project (PAT) at level 2, a designation that extends until 2029. This initiative underscores the region’s proactive approach to integrating nutrition and health at the community level.
Leadership Alignment for a Healthier Future
the signing ceremony brought together key figures, including Stéphan Rossignol, president of the agglomeration, and Sandrine Dubois-Lambert, vice-president and PAT referent. Also in attendance were Mathieu Pardell, departmental director of the Regional Health Agency Occitanie, and Claire Deram, head of the public political unit of food at the Regional directorate of Food, agriculture and Forestry (DRAAF). Their collective presence highlights the collaborative effort driving this vital program.
A Decade of Dedication: Building on Past Successes
As 2014, the Pays de l’Or has actively participated in the national “health nutrition” program, championed by the Ministry of health. This program recognizes and supports communities that prioritize preventative health measures related to nutrition. The renewed commitment in 2025 acknowledges the significant progress made in conjunction with the PAT, notably in promoting balanced diets through extensive educational initiatives. This includes engaging fourteen schools and forty classes in activities designed to foster healthier eating habits.
comprehensive Initiatives: From Education to Action
The pays de l’Or’s approach is multifaceted, encompassing a wide range of activities. Intergenerational cooking workshops promote knowledge sharing and culinary skills, while anti-food waste campaigns address sustainability and resource management. The promotion of sports and physical activity further reinforces the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Crucially, these initiatives are supported by over 230 professionals trained by the agglomeration’s dietitian, ensuring consistent and informed guidance.
Extending the Reach: From Cradle to Community
The program’s impact extends beyond schools, with pedagogical gardens established in crèches to introduce young children to healthy food sources. Furthermore, healthy breakfasts are provided in colleges, ensuring students start their day with nutritious meals. These targeted interventions aim to instill healthy habits from an early age, contributing to long-term well-being.
Combating Chronic diseases Through Lifestyle Interventions
The core objective of these initiatives is to mitigate the risk factors associated with prevalent diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancers, obesity, and diabetes.By promoting healthy eating, encouraging physical activity, and combating sedentary lifestyles, the Pays de l’Or aims to improve the overall nutritional health of its population. These efforts align with national health objectives to reduce the burden of chronic diseases, which currently account for a significant portion of healthcare costs. For example, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), six in ten adults in the United States have a chronic disease, and four in ten have two or more.
Territorial Health Communities: Key Partners in Public Health
Territorial health communities (CPTS) play a vital role in implementing these public health actions. these local networks facilitate collaboration between healthcare professionals, community organizations, and local authorities, ensuring a coordinated and effective approach to promoting health and well-being. Their involvement is crucial for the long-term sustainability and success of the “active cities” charter and the PAT.
