Louis Pasteur: A Legacy of Scientific Innovation Celebrated at Eureka Gallery

Exhibition highlights pasteur’s groundbreaking work in chemistry, physics, and medicine, emphasizing its continued relevance.

A deep Dive into Pasteur’s Enduring Impact

The Eureka Gallery is currently hosting “pasteur at the Service of Science,” an engaging exhibition that explores the monumental contributions of Louis Pasteur. The exhibition, unveiled by Director Jean-Yves Maugendre alongside notable figures like Thierry Repentin and Jean-Pierre Casazza, delves into Pasteur’s pivotal advancements, including the rabies vaccine, pasteurization, and the understanding of fermentation. The displays also highlight the practical applications of his discoveries in industry and the critical role of hygiene in healthcare settings.

Beyond the historical context, the exhibition underscores the ongoing importance of scientific outreach. As Nolwenn Le Stones,vice-president of the university, emphasized, fostering curiosity and intelligence through accessible science is paramount. Visitors can explore the exhibition until August 30th, participating in experiments, lectures, and guided tours designed to illuminate Pasteur’s genius.

Engaging Events and Activities

The Eureka Gallery has scheduled a series of events to complement the “Pasteur at the service of Science” exhibition, offering diverse opportunities for learning and engagement:

Upcoming lectures and Discussions

  • April 26th, 3:00 PM:Pasteur, a Precursor of Green Chemistry?” – A lecture by Alicia Schmitt and Théo demange, Master 2 Chemistry students, exploring Pasteur’s work in the context of modern enduring chemistry. Green chemistry, which focuses on minimizing hazardous substances and maximizing resource efficiency, is increasingly vital in today’s world.Such as, the development of bio-based plastics and more efficient solar cells are key areas of focus.
  • May 3rd, 3:00 PM:Pasteur and Infectious Diseases, a Scientific Heritage at the heart of Medical Progress” – Dr. Forest will discuss pasteur’s profound impact on our understanding and treatment of infectious diseases. Pasteur’s germ theory revolutionized medicine, leading to the development of antibiotics and vaccines that have saved countless lives. According to the World Health Association, vaccines prevent an estimated 2 to 3 million deaths each year.

Interactive Experiences

  • May 17th, 8:00 PM – Midnight: A large-scale treasure hunt spanning the media library and the Eureka Gallery, promising an evening of fun and finding.
  • May 21st & June 18th, 2:00 PM: Guided tour of the CIMES BRASSERIE, connecting Pasteur’s work on fermentation to the brewing process (reservation required, €4.50).
  • June 14th, 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM: An interactive session on the tiger mosquito, presented by the interdepartmental agreement for demospecting, raising awareness about vector-borne diseases.

Accessibility Initiatives

  • May 20th, 27th & June 6th, 10:00 AM: Dedicated exhibition tours for visually impaired individuals.
  • May 21st: Guided tour in sign language, ensuring inclusivity for deaf and hard-of-hearing visitors.

Games and Learning at the Media Library

  • July 8th – August 30th:It’s Not the Game” – A selection of board games and video games designed to stimulate the mind, available at the media library and the Georges-Brassens library. An exploration book with answers will be available for children upon exiting. Open Tuesday, thursday, and Friday from 2 PM to 6 PM, Wednesday and Saturday from 10 AM to 12 PM and 2 PM to 6 PM. Closed on holidays.

University Partnership and Scientific Transmission

The university plays a crucial role in supporting the Eureka Gallery’s mission. Nolwenn Le Stones, vice-president of the school sciences department, highlighted the importance of this partnership in facilitating the transmission of scientific knowledge to the public.
