ANCONA – «Parkinson’s is the pathology, after Alzheimer’s, with the greatest impact on our territory. I thank the KOS Group for shining a light on this issue». The Health Councilor of the Marche Region, Paolo Calcinaro, begins his speech at the opening of the event organized by the Kos Group which was held on Friday at the Teatro Delle Muse, underlining how “fundamental it is to create a synthesis between hospital, territory and home”.
«The data speak clearly – continues Antonello Morgantini, director of the Villa Adria Kos clinic in Ancona – and there are around 5 thousand people from the Marche affected by this pathology, most of whom are of working age. And these numbers are constantly increasing». For this reason, Kos proposes the construction of innovative paths for its treatment and care, with the support of a clinical network of facilities distributed in various regions of Italy. In the Marche, an important role, integrated with public health, is played by the Santo Stefano Institute of Porto Potenza Picena, as well as by the other Kos clinics and the Santo Stefano outpatient centres.
«In our approach – says Paolo Guidoni, director of the Santo Stefano Institute of Porto Potenza Picena – we actively involve family members, care-givers and third sector entities, because Parkinson’s represents a complex and systemic condition, which profoundly affects not only the person, but also his family, relational and social dimension».
At the center of Friday’s event are the problems of the patients themselves, their families and caregivers. Outside the Marche, a key role is played by the Villa Margherita Kos clinic in Arcugnano, in the province of Vicenza, a national center of excellence recognized by the Fresco Parkinson Institute, and by the Cardinal Ferrari Kos center in Fontanellato in the province of Parma.
Partners of the initiative were the family associations and third sector organizations in a conference which had speakers of national importance, sponsored by many leading entities, such as UnivPM, the scientific companies Sirn, Simfer, Limpe-Dismov, Ofi Marche, Fresco Parkinson Institute, Ast Ancona, Apm, Order of surgeons and dentists of the province of Ancona, Opi Ancona, Inrca, University Hospital of the Marche, Neurological physiotherapy & neurosciences, Italian Physiotherapy Association.
