A pancake outlet in Food Court Chinatown, Neil Road, Singapore, named Bu Gao Sheng, has gained viral attention on social media for its unconventional promotional tactic: a sign declaring “Boss does not pay salaries.”
The sign, posted on June 30, 2025, initially led many netizens to believe the outlet was closing due to unfair labor practices. The sign read, “The boss does not pay a salary, so the outlet will be closed.” The post was shared by Instagram user @sgfollowsall, sparking emotional reactions from viewers.

However, a closer look revealed a smaller line at the bottom of the sign: “Opened again on July 1, 2025.” According to Must Share News, the notification was a joke intended as a promotion to attract customer attention.
The outlet reopened after a one-day break, much to the amusement of netizens who realized the true intent of the sign. Many suspect the owner deliberately created the notification to boost business, and it appears to have worked, drawing in more customers.
