A Muddy Tradition Continues

La Padolata, an annual cross-cycle tourist event organized by Bike Torretta di Porcari, has once again proven its enduring appeal. This year’s event drew approximately 400 participants to Porcari,highlighting the community’s enthusiasm for cycling and local traditions. The event, now a staple in the region, is known for its unique blend of athletic challenge and playful engagement with the natural environment.

The Route: From Town Square to Muddy Riverbed

The event kicked off from Viale marraccini in Porcari, a first for the event, with Deputy Mayor Roberta Menchetti acting as the honorary starter. The initial kilometers saw participants riding together, led by an organizational vehicle, until they reached Nanni’s shack. From this point, the ride transformed into a spirited race through the ancient riverbed of Lake Sesto, known for its muddy terrain. A unique aspect of La Padolata is the special prize awarded to the participants who manage to accumulate the most mud on their shirts, encouraging a playful and immersive experiance.

La Padolata is a past event that involves the families of our country and not only and its particularity is that, in fact, those who, more than any other participant, knows how to interpret the spirit of the Padule and knows how to appreciate and enhance its peculiarities. Tomei also highlighted Martan, the “little man of the Pantano,” as a symbol of the event’s spirit.

The Municipality of Porcari provided crucial support, while the Municipality of Capannori granted access through the Gherardesca natural oasis. Councilor Claudia Berti of Capannori was present to welcome the participants. Tomei expressed gratitude to the Green Cross of Porcari, Atletica Porcari, and the numerous volunteers who contributed to the event’s success.
