The Czech Republic is set to showcase a blend of tradition and modernity at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, with a new collection of workwear designed by acclaimed Czech designer Jan Černý. Inspired by both classic Czech overalls and contemporary japanese workwear, the collection aims to provide a functional and fashionable uniform for the Czech Pavilion staff.
A Fusion of Heritage and Modernity in Workwear Design
Jan Černý, recently honored as both Fashion Designer of the Year and Grand Designer of the Year for 2024, has drawn inspiration from unexpected sources for this project. The collection subtly nods to iconic czech imagery while maintaining a distinctly modern and international appeal.
“Uniforms have been created that can be reminiscent of Otík’s overalls from the film Village has a center, but when we set them in an international environment, this reference disappears and receive a completely different meaning,”
Jan Černý, Designer
This approach ensures the workwear is both recognizable and relevant in the global context of the Expo.
The EXPO Collection: Minimalist Style, Maximum Impact
The collection features a minimalist aesthetic, primarily in black, and includes versatile pieces such as a bomber jacket, shirt, trousers, and aprons. These are complemented by Prestige sneakers and a scarf featuring the Expo mascot, René. The uniforms are designed for practicality and durability, essential for the demanding environment of a World Expo, which runs for several months.
According to recent data from the World Expo organizers, over 28 million visitors are expected to attend the Osaka Expo 2025, making durable and comfortable workwear a necessity for pavilion staff.
Functionality Meets Fashion: A Departure from Olympic Designs
Unlike the Czech Olympic Team collection, which was primarily designed for the opening ceremony and festive events, the EXPO collection is built to withstand daily wear and tear throughout the Expo’s duration. This focus on practicality ensures that the staff of the Czech Pavilion will be both comfortable and stylish throughout the event, which concludes in October 2025.
Czech Pavilion Gears Up for World Expo 2025
The new collection will be worn by hostesses, restaurant staff, and all other personnel involved in the operation of the Czech Pavilion, starting April 13th. The Czech Republic aims to present a cohesive and stylish image to the millions of visitors expected at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka.
Reader Poll: What Do You Think?
A recent poll asked readers for their opinion on the new collection for the Czech Pavilion at EXPO 2025. With over 2700 votes cast, the results reflect the public’s interest in the design and presentation of national identity on the world stage.
