More than 40 kilos of various drugs, weapons, ammunition and vehicles were seized in a mega operation carried out in the region of Arica and Parinacota, which left 111 people arrested.
The work of the police, which lasted 3 days, was framed in the “Joint Operation Fortress 3”a large police operation carried out simultaneously throughout the country and which involved more than 6,200 Carabineros and Investigative Police officials.
The intervention focused on Arica and Parinacota was coordinated with the Ministry of Public Security, and included more than 3 thousand identity checks and 182 inspections of foreigners.

As in previous operations, the work focused on providing greater presence and oversight in specific sectors where crimes with a high social connotation are concentrated.
The work on the ground left important results in the region, highlighting the execution of pending orders, the seizure of more than 40 kilos of various drugs (including marijuana, cocaine hydrochloride and cocaine base paste), and the inspection of foreign citizens.
Regarding results in Arica specifically, Carabineros reported the arrest of 68 people; 22 of them are fugitives from justice (4 for crimes of theft of national property, 1 for theft, 1 for serious injuries, 1 for rape, 1 for surprise robbery and 2 for reception).
Likewise, a total of 282 infractions were registered and 3,014 preventive controls were recorded (1,280 identity controls, 1,668 vehicle controls, 37 to commercial premises, 3 to alcohol establishments, 13 to banking entities and 13 private security). Additionally, they seized 5 bladed weapons and 1 vehicle.
The Seremi of Public Security of Arica and Parinacota, Elsa Cortez San Franciscoindicated that with this work they seek to “demonstrate that we have a State present and that it is working in an articulated manner, with the aim of being able to respond to presidential commitments, but also to be able to return security to citizens.”
For his part, the general Alvaro Martínez Vegazone chief of the Carabineros of Arica and Parinacota, highlighted the arrest of “22 fugitives with current warrants, among which stands out a fugitive detainee from justice in 2020 for the crimes of abuse and rape“.
“In addition, due to an operation carried out by OS9, nine people were arrested who were selling counterfeit products. They were detained for violating the Industrial Property Law, seizing species valued at an approximate amount of 68 million pesos“he added.
Meanwhile, the head of the Arica Provincial Prefecture of the PDI, prefect Eugenio Herrera Vallejosspecified that the joint work by the PDI focused both on the plan for simultaneous inspection of foreigners and also on the search for fugitives from justice.
