The German Badminton Association (DBV) announces that Oliver Pongratz, federal base coach for young talent and head of the federal base in Hamburg, will end his position on February 29, 2026. From March 1, 2026, he will take on a new role as head coach and sports director at the Swedish Badminton Association.

Over the past three years, Oliver Pongratz has made a significant contribution to the further development of young German badminton players. With great specialist knowledge, a high level of commitment and a special instinct for promoting young talent, he has shaped the work at the federal base in Hamburg and accompanied numerous athletes on their journey.

“I love the things I do here in Hamburg, and this decision has nothing to do with the players, structures or coaches here in Hamburg. I always enjoyed being here in the hall,” says Pongratz about his DBV role. In addition to the new job offer, family reasons also play a role, as his family also lives in Sweden. “It just fits together perfectly. I actually couldn’t turn it down,” said the 52-year-old.

Jakob Høi, sports director of the German Badminton Association, thanks the outgoing coach for the cooperation:
“In his work as DBV national youth coach, Oliver has made a significant contribution to the further development of our youth sector with his commitment and his clear sporting style. For this, Oli deserves a ‘heartfelt thank you’.”

The DBV would like to expressly thank Oliver Pongratz for his committed and valuable work as well as for the great personal commitment with which he fulfilled his tasks in the association and wishes him all the best and much success for his future professional and private life.

The tender for his successor is currently being prepared and will be published shortly on badminton.de.
