“We are incredibly grateful,” said Janin Lindemann, board member of the Koppelweide animal shelter. Together with her colleague Nicole Koebnick, she came to the specialist pet shop “Zoo & Co.” in Gummersbach-Niederseßmar to receive a donation of money and animal feed. In September, this hosted an animal experience day with a colorful program in the Eckenhagen monkey and bird park.
The income was divided between the four animal shelters in Wiehl, Olpe, Siegen and Meinerzhagen as well as the Katzenhilfe in Olpe – the sum of 144 euros each was rounded up by “Zoo & Co.” so that the representatives made a donation of 200 Euros were happy. “We will use it to make the cat and dog rooms more comfortable. Scratching posts and catwalks, for example, are needed and the dogs need new places to lie down, ”said Lindemann.
Food for kittens
For Michaela Kempf from the Meinerzhagen animal shelter, the help comes at exactly the right time. “We currently accommodate 26 kittens. With the money we will definitely get baby food for cats ”, says Kempf. Due to the corona pandemic, things are not looking so rosy financially at the moment, she says.
In addition, the time will come again when adoption inquiries have to be examined more closely. “The animals shouldn’t stand under the Christmas tree as a Christmas present,” she says, saying that less of the fur noses and small animals are conveyed. The food donation comes more than just called. “Zoo & Co.” donated around 150 kilograms of cat and dog food each to the animal shelters.
Call for garbage collection successful
“We called for a rubbish collection campaign for animal welfare and we converted the amount of rubbish that had been brought to us one to one into animal feed”, explained market employee Thomas Pütz. Together with branch manager Dina Lehmann – in addition to Gummersbach, she also runs the branches in Kreuztal, Lennestadt, Kierspe and Olpe – Pütz set up these and other campaigns, which also met with great enthusiasm among the animal shelter employees.
“We were at the animal experience day and it was really nice,” said Maria Hof from the Olpe animal shelter. Your colleague Stefanie Heider already knows exactly how the donation should best be used: “The money will be used for the renovation work on the dog hall”.
