Nile Fever Extremadura: 11 Cases Reported – Updates & Info

The Extremadura for Health Service (SES) has confirmed on Friday three new cases of western Nile fever in the region, which raise eleven in number of people affected in 2025, five of which remain admitted to the Don Benito-Villanueva hospital.

This is a 66-year-old woman and a 77-year-old male from Don Benito’s health area, admitted to the Don Benito-Villanueva Hospital, and a male of 55 years asymptomatic, of the Navalmoral Health Area of ​​La Mata, reported the Board of Extremadura in a statement.

This last case has been detected through the Blood Bank of Extremadura in its collaboration in the surveillance of this disease.

On the other hand, this Friday, the hospital discharge of the case notified on September 5, relative to an 80-year-old woman from Don Benito-Villanueva’s health.

The SES had already confirmed this morning a new case of western Nile fever in Extremadura, that of an 82-year-old woman from the health area of ​​Don Benito-Villanueva, who is admitted to the Don Benito-Villanueva hospital and that at that time was the eighth.

The SES Management has informed the management of the eight health areas of Extremadura to remain in a situation of surveillance in any suspicion of compatible clinic cases, thus maintaining an attitude of alert to possible cases, which will increase the diagnostic capacity, although 80 percent of the infections in humans are asymptomatic.

The SES advises to maintain in good condition the pools, ponds or rafts, and try to empty and avoid that they contain water such as dishes under pots, jugs, cubes, toys, plates of domestic and tire animals, among others.
