During last night's 70th Emmy Awards, comedian Tina Fey came on stage to introduce the In Memoriam package, which opened with a tribute to Aretha Franklin and Anthony Bourdain. It was the second very emotional moment of the night: earlier in the broadcast, a Balvenie commercial said that the deceased chef had talked about his passion for your profession.
Anthony was a spokesperson for Balvenie, a whiskey brand, from around 2015 until his death in June. As part of his work with the company, Anthony interviewed artisans around the world in a web series called Raw Craft. During the commercial, clips from the series are interspersed with Anthony's dialogue,
"If you feel in your heart, if you know, if you have reason to believe that you are great at something, you can do something unique that will shock and amaze and terrify people, and enchant – do that," he says in the video.
The commercial then cuts through to a message that all Anthony fans probably agree with: "And that's right. We are proud that we have shared the journey."
While the moment was certainly emotional, people had mixed feelings about the commercial, with some claiming it was too early after his death and others expressing concern about his appearance in an alcohol brand commercial.
