PlayStation Network users can now change their names (but …)

A long-awaited feature is now available to PlayStation Network users: change the account name.

Depending on the region, functionality will be available later on April 10th or April 11th. PlayStation users, in addition to designated secondary accounts, will be able to edit their ID online from the same PlayStation 4 console (but not from PS3). o PS Vita) o through a web browser.

This will be a blessing for people who have chosen very sharp PSNIDs when they were teenagers. Now they are playing with their work colleagues – or their children – they can find xZx_BLAZEKUSH420_xZx a little embarrassing.

The first online ID change is free for all PlayStation users. Subsequently, any further changes are $ 9.99 (£ 7.99 / € 9.99) each time, although PS Plus users get a discounted price of $ 4.99 (£ 3.99 / € 4.99). Users can choose to display their old ID next to the new one for up to 30 days after the change, helping their friends adapt.

Don't worry if someone jumps on your old ID. PlayStation reserves any ID you use for yourself and you can return to any of them at any time at no cost. This includes your original ID.

However, it is not entirely normal, as not all games support this feature. PlayStation warns that only games launched for the first time since April 1, 2018 will work as expected, as the developers used tools designed to support online ID changes.

The only exception known to this is the racing title onrush. This appears in the "Critical Issues" list along with nine previous titles, and players can find their content, trophy progression and DLC – including paid DLCs – deleted for these games:

  • Disc Jam
  • Everyone's golf
  • Just Dance 2017
  • LittleBigPlanet 3
  • MLB 14: The Show
  • MLB 15: The Show
  • MLB: The Show 16
  • onrush
  • The golf club 2
  • Worms Battlegrounds

Although this is bad news for onrush fans, there is good news for GT Sport Players. Despite a previous launch date, the PlayStation tests reveal no known problems with game support for the online ID editing function. The same applies to Race trim, CARS GOTY Edition project, CARS 2 Projectand Need for Speed titles Need speed, Return, is rivals.

A complete list of tested titles is available on the PlayStation website.
