Offender of Utrecht admits attack | TIME ONLINE

The alleged assassin of Utrecht has admitted that he committed the crime. As the prosecutor in the Dutch city announced, he stated that he had acted alone. The motive is still unclear.

The investigators had previously not assumed that there are accomplices. Another suspect, who was arrested on Tuesday, was released from custody. He was no longer suspected, said the prosecutor.

The already accused and now also confessed offender Gökmen T. is accused of having shot three people in a tram on Monday. Three more were seriously injured. The 37-year-old sits in custody, which has now been extended by the maximum period of another two weeks.

The prosecution accuses the man of "multiple murder or manslaughter with terrorist intent". The suspicion of terrorism is confirmed so far mainly by a letter that was found in the escape car of the suspect. Further details are not known. But it also examined whether the motive in personal problems of the offender "in combination with a radicalized ideology" lie.
