Moscow, May 25 – AIF-Moscow.

In St. Petersburg, a new nuclear-powered ice-breaker "Ural" was launched on the Baltic Shipyard, reports RIA Novosti.

Before the new ship was launched into the Neva for the first time, it was initiated by a priest, after which a bottle of champagne was traditionally broken on its side. This was done by the head of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov, who participated in the solemn ceremony of launching the icebreaker in the water, Russia places such hope on the development of the Northern Sea Route with such ships.

"Ural" is not yet complete. Icebreaker turns into 2022.

Such as the universal nuclear ice breakers "Ural" should be the largest and most powerful in the world. The length of the ship is 173.3 meters, width – 34 meters. Icebreakers can pierce ice to a depth of three meters. Ships will have to escort ships from the fields of the Yamal and Gydan peninsulas, and from the Kara Sea shelf to the markets of the Asia Pacific region.

Earlier, Alexei Pushkov, Chairman of the Information Policy Committee of the Federation Council, said Russia should seriously prepare for the "Arctic Battle".
