Mission: Impossible – Fallout | fox5sandiego.com

I had a relative who loved eating at Hometown Buffet. I could never understand it, but our family will end up going there occasionally to appease it. Once there, I would pile up my plate with mashed potatoes, meatloaf and some turkey. I would be pleasantly surprised that the comfort food was not as bad as I thought.

The Mission Impossible the films, now in the sixth episode, are more or less the same for me. I'm never thrilled to go, but my wife and I sat down, we're in an air-conditioned theater … and after an exhilarating opening scene my wife said, "These are very similar to James movies Bond. They're a little fun. "

And she is right. The two and a half hours have just passed.

The writer / director Christopher McQuarrie, who made the last film, does a decent job with this. Now, this does not mean that it was not a bit weak on the plot. Furthermore, it does not mean that you are not questioning the decisions that people make. Making a helicopter with your helicopter does not seem like smart planning. Hit a car on your motorcycle, while you go about 75 miles at the moment, without a helmet … and be able to get up, with a slight limp, and run away. Parachuting in a lightning storm and having a character struck by lightning and live … it seemed strange. Especially when they presented themselves to a rave to get the bad guy. They could not just roll into a black Lincoln car? It's not like they were parachuting down to land on top of a castle they were supposed to infiltrate. But hey …. The incredibly exciting pursuits of motorcycles and cars, and fun scenes of fighting, a bit offset by stupidity. At one point, when a car ran under a bridge, I thought of a scene The French connection where Gene Hackman was driving under the overhead train in New York and watching the bad guys on a train. It's like that scene on steroids.

The story involves a terrorist group called The Apostles. They want to unleash chaos in the world, and it would help if they took the three plutonium spheres that Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) lets out his hand. I think it's the second time that happens, even though in this film it makes more sense. He was saving Luther (Ving Rhames) or grabbing the plutonium suitcase.

Hunt deals with a gun dealer named White Widow (no relationship with Black Widow). She is played by Vanessa Kirby of The crown. He will betray the plutonium for the bad boy that Hunt helped to put away. His character is interesting and, just like the character of Angela Bassett, I wish they still have a little more to do.

Ilsa (Rebecca Ferguson), the love interest of the previous film, shows up and kicks. The head of Ethan Hunley (Alec Baldwin) makes his anger angry.

Sean Harris as Solomon, has the look and the perfect voice for a bad boy you hate.

Now, these movies always have so many twists and turns of characters, I've never tried to follow. I imagine every moment that Alec Baldwin could pull off a rubber mask and really be Billy Baldwin, or Bassett could really have been a killer with a mask. I feel like in these previous films, those moves were a trick. When they do them in this, it worked better. Although my wife was disappointed that we knew who the bad guy was at the beginning, I do not think they were trying to stop us from doing it. It was obvious enough from the beginning.

Of course we will go to see Hunt who is organizing in Paris, Berlin, London and even one of Robert Plant's old gatherings – Kashmir. It's going to dangle from the buildings, from the cliffs and from that part on the helicopter (you know the part I mean). You'll have fun watching him jump from one building to another and get to say "Hey … that's the scene where Cruise broke his ankle."

[side note: Cruise is 56-years-old; perhaps it’s time to bring in stuntmen].

The film has some nice doses of humor and lots of fun action sequences, can I forgive the few weak moments it has (do we really need to listen to a Luther monologue about how special a person of Ethan is?).

There is an amazing fight scene for the bathroom (good at Liang Yang), which was the best fight in a bathroom by Eastern Promises (although it was more like a sauna than a bath).

3 stars out of 5.
