Matilda, three, and her faithful Jack Russell Terrier are safe after spending almost 24 hours missing in flood conditions in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
A thorough search of the girl culminated on Thursday afternoon when she was seen by a helicopter 3.5 km from her home in Noreena Downs Homestead.
The girl moved away from the farm, 70 km from Nullagine, on Wednesday afternoon.
Three helicopters, nine police officers, eight SES staff members and seven horses were deployed to search for it, along with Noreena Downs station staff.
Heavy rains from former tropical cyclone Blake made search conditions difficult and filled several streams surrounding the property.
Police say Matilda was able to cross one of the streams when the water calmed down, but the stream quickly rose again, catching the girl and her dog.
The Pilbara community helped with the search, including the provision of horse riders, before Matilda was finally found with her faithful dog still by her side.
