Champions League: Hoffenheim saves itself late

For the TSG 1899 Hoffenheim reaching the Champions League knockout even more difficult. The team of coach Julian Nagelsmann fought at Olympique Lyon on Wednesday night after a 0-2 deficit to the break, although a 2: 2 and prevented for the time being, the off. The Hoffenheim but now after the fourth winless group match now win against Shakhtar Donetsk and Manchester City and hope for a slip-up of the French. World champions Nabil Fekir (19 minutes) and Tanguy Ndombelé (28) met for Lyon, Andrej Kramaric (65) and Pavel Kaderabek (90 + 2) for the Bundesliga club.

A phased appearance and a catch-up race gave the Hoffenheims a 2: 2 in front of 53,850 spectators, but the TSG still has to wait for their first victory in the premier class. "If you are 0: 2 behind, you have no choice, because you have to go full throttle," said Ermin Bicakcic. "It was a strong fight from us." After a yellow-red card for Kasim Adams (51) Hoffenheim had to play a long-time outnumbered, but fought back. Captain Kevin Vogt saw a "huge morale" of his team: "As we come here with ten men, I'm already proud of the troupe."

The Hoffenheimers played as announced from the beginning courageously forward and were clearly superior in the initial phase. Lyon acted with restraint and with much respect. The Frenchman's strong attack against world champion Fekir, who had missed the first leg injury, and Memphis Depay seldom came to dangerous action at the beginning. Especially on the left side with internationals Nico Schulz and Kramaric Hoffenheim was dangerous again and again. The good start phase could not use the TSG but – on the contrary: After 20 minutes slapped a long-range shot by Ferland Mendy on the inside post, two extra shots keeper Oliver Baumann could still parry. However, Fekir was on the fourth attempt and poked the ball over the line.

The setback seemed the TSG but wegzustecken well. Ishak Belfodil (24) and Schulz with a shot on the outside net three minutes later had chances to 1: 1. But it got even worse for the Bundesliga Seventh: After a counterattack Ndombelé was completely free in the back room, defensive boss Kevin Vogt faked his shot from the goal.

The French moved more and more frequently their fast switching game on. Especially Hoffenheim's right-back Adams had problems. The TSG defense again presented itself as too immature for European top level. The low hopes of the guests on a point win dropped six minutes after the break on. Adams once again had problems with the fast Fekir and saw the yellow-red card after his next foul. In a side goal by Jason Denayer after the following free kick Hoffenheim was lucky.

When the guests seemed to have almost given up, the first goal fell. Keeper Anthony Lopes was powerless after a strong ball from Schulz on Kramaric low shot into the left corner. And Hoffenheim continued to outnumber them and was rewarded: In injury time Kaderabek headed for a free-kick from Kramaric still late for a 2-2 equalizer.

Manchester United is late for the game

Manchester United have proven comeback at Juventus and have a good chance of reaching the knockout stages in the Champions League. Juan Mata equalized in the 2-1 (0-0) on Wednesday evening, first the Juve leadership of Cristiano Ronaldo (65) in the 86th minute before the English side benefited from an own goal of Turin's Alex Sandro (90th). In the table, United are two points behind leaders Juve in second place. In third place behind Man United is Valencia CF, who won 3: 1 (2: 1) at Young Boys Bern.

Gabriel Jesus (24/72 penalty kick / 90 + 2), Raheem Sterling (49) and Riyad Mahrez (84) scored the other goals for the Citizens.

In Group G, the favorites of their competition are so slow. Real Madrid and AS Roma have now each nine points and five points clear of ZSKA Moscow in third place after victories. Karim Benzema (21st / 37th), Casemiro (23rd), Gareth Bale (40th) and national player Toni Kroos (67.) made for a 5-0 (4-0) Reals at Vikoria Pilsen. Rome had previously won 2-1 (1-0) in Moscow.

Ajax Amsterdam kept Benfica out in the FC Bayern Group 1-1 (1-0) in the Portuguese capital. Dusan Tadic (61) equalized the Benfica lead by Jonas (29 ') and defended the Dutchman's four-point lead in third place.

Two Lewandowski goals facilitate Bayern
