He is one of a total of 25 scholarship holders in the “MLP Scholarship Program”. The student at the University of Regensburg was successful in the “International” category, which honors a project or internship abroad. He receives funding totaling 3,000 euros.
“I am very pleased that I was able to convince in the selection process and that I am one of this year’s MLP scholarship holders. The online assessment center was an enriching experience and I gained numerous interesting impressions. In addition, I am grateful for the financial support that the MLP scholarship offers, ”says Eckberg.
Eckberg was awarded the MLP scholarship for the “Thriving Green” project, which combats hunger and malnutrition by growing the superfood Spirulina in places where conventional agriculture is not possible. The high-yielding alga is currently being grown at three locations in Kenya.
Das Projekt “Thriving Green”:
The concept of “Thriving Green” follows the principle of “helping people to help themselves”: Efficient breeding facilities are set up together with the locals and the farmers are trained through regular workshops in cultivation, operation and distribution in order to supply themselves and their environment with sustainable spirulina . In addition to establishing sustainable agriculture on site, the income generated from independently operating your own breeding facilities creates an economic upswing that opens up a new livelihood for people.
The technical solution has been verified by TÜV Nord and the ecological sustainability has been confirmed by the WWF.
