She already has plans for her year in Trittau. “Living in Trittau for a year will help me to break out of the urban landscape I am familiar with. I would like to interact with the environment and the town of Trittau and I am excited to see how my work will develop in this environment,” she says. A series of self-made artist books is planned, in which she would like to integrate parts of her collages and drawings. She also plans to continue a series of large format paintings she is currently working on.

Torn posters and oil paint

The raw material for Despoina Pagiota’s pictures are torn posters. Applied to the canvas, she reformulates the fragments with their distinctive tear marks, serial numbers, printing grids and advertising details taken out of context. On medium and large format canvases, the collected pieces are mixed with oil paints, spray paint and screen printing by Pagiota into a mass of pigments and pixels.
