“Due to global warming, our seawater is also warming and we see fish that prefer warmer water moving further and further north,” explains RAVON.
“There is another factor: wind farms and new (artificial) reefs also mean more hard substrate (surface) in our waters. Species such as the ringneck bleak, but also other southern fish species, can benefit from this and possibly expand into Dutch waters.”
The fish was discovered by Ruben Vermeule during a wreck dive. Vermeule is trying to record all fish species in the Netherlands for a series on social media.
