Peter Madsen on board his “Nautilus” at the end of April 2008
In August 2017, Peter Madsen killed journalist Kim Wall in his submarine. A director accompanied him before and after the crime. Now Netflix is refraining from streaming “Into the deep” this year.
Dhe streaming service Netflix has withdrawn a documentary film about the submarine farmer Peter Madsen convicted of murder. The Swedish television SVT reported this Wednesday. Madsen had killed Swedish journalist Kim Wall in his submarine in August 2017 and has to pay a life sentence for this.
Australian director Emma Sullivan had accompanied Madsen and his assistant before and after the crime. Originally, the documentary was supposed to be about the inventor’s missile plans. In January the film premiered at the American Sundance Film Festival. It should be shown on Netflix later this year.
According to the media report, several people in the documentation asked to be cut out or anonymized. Netflix confirmed to the SVT that it did not want to stream the film titled “Into the deep”. The streaming provider did not want to comment on the reasons. In February, director Sullivan told the film magazine “Ekko” that “all participants voluntarily participated in the documentation and gave interviews for several years”.
