National Press Day Emphasizes Quality Journalism Amid Digital Disruption
Pekanbaru, Riau – The National Press Day in Pekanbaru, Riau, highlighted critical issues in journalism within a swiftly evolving digital landscape.
Public Demand for Quality Information
Agus Sudibyo, Chairman of the TVRI Supervisory Board, emphasized the public’s strong demand for accurate, vetted information amid the rise of social media.
“The role of traditional media remains unaltered in supplying precise and dependable news,” Sudibyo stressed. “Despite the growing prominence of social media, it cannot entirely meet the need for in-depth factual analysis.”
Adaptation of Media Distribution Models
Sudibyo also advocated for media organizations to embrace social media to disseminate content.
“Neglecting social media is impractical in today’s connected world,” he cautioned. “Leveraging these platforms can amplify journalism’s reach while ensuring information remains reliable.”
The Shift of News Sources
Nurjaman, Secretary of the Expert Council of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI), observed a significant shift in news consumption.
“Conventional sources are bolstered by social media,” Nurjaman noted. “More agencies are developing their own digital content to engage audiences directly.”
Facilitating Content Creation with Technology
He added that technological advancements, particularly AI, are streamlining news production processes.
“Creating news videos has become remarkably easier with AI,” Nurjaman noted. “This democratizes the process and ensures quicker dissemination.”
Journalism as a Pillar of Democracy
Dhimam Abror, Chairman of the Central PWI Expert Council, stressed journalism’s crucial role in democracy.
“Digital platforms provide a critical avenue for engaging in democratic discourse,” Abror explained. “However, maintaining high-quality information is pivotal.”
Encouraging Critical Thinking
Abror highlighted the platform’s potential to foster informed participation in politics.
“The digital space facilitates thoughtful analysis of political events,” he said, emphasizing the importance of credible information in shaping public opinion.
