Sweden took a big step towards the European Championships when they beat top rivals Serbia in the first of two matches.

One who perhaps celebrated a little extra was 34-year-old Nathalie Hagman, who scored her 1000th goal in the match. With her seven complete hits in the match, she actually reached 1001 goals.

Hagman thus becomes the third to reach over 1,000 goals. Previously, only Mia Hermansson-Högdahl with her 1,153 goals, and Åsa Mogensen with her 1,108 goals have done the same.

Swedish advantage before the return.

Sweden started the EC qualifiers strongly with two straight victories against Ukraine and Lithuania.

So did today’s opponent, Serbia, who before the match had the same number of points as Sweden.

Ahead of the return match which will be played on Saturday, Sweden is now two points ahead of Serbia and now has everything in their own hands.

When national team captain Tomas Axnér called out the squad last month, he emphasized that the matches against Serbia were two key matches.

– There will be two tough matches, but we also see opportunities in this double meeting to cement a European Championship place, he said then.

Sweden meets Serbia again on Saturday and the match will be broadcast on SVT Play starting at 18.00
