Dr. acknowledged. J.D. Polk, chief health officer at NASA, said that there is a real danger represented by the possibility of astronauts returning carrying strange diseases or pathogens from Mars to Earth, stressing in statements that the agency is extremely concerned about interplanetary viruses and space bacteria.

Dr. explained. J.D. Polk said that “NASA” has developed a strict plan to protect the planet, as samples returning from Mars, such as soil, are treated with strict security measures similar to protocols for dealing with “anthrax.” Astronauts are also subjected to careful quarantine and comprehensive medical swabs to ensure that no infection is transmitted to the public, especially with it being proven that the human bacteria and viruses present in the astronauts’ intestines change their nature and mutate due to the lack of gravity and space radiation.

In a related context, he also stressed that NASA is doing its best to avoid causing any global pandemic coming from abroad, but at the same time he expressed his concerns about new commercial space companies, such as SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk, and the extent of their commitment to “due diligence” and strict health standards, stressing the need for the regulatory and legal framework to keep pace with the speed of development of ambitious commercial missions to Mars.
