At the same time as the Formula 1 race in Qatar, the Porsche Carrera Cup also stopped off at the “Lusail International Circuit”. In qualifying 1, Mutschlechner took tenth place on the grid, and in the race the rookie was able to hold onto position in the Porsche 992 GT3 Cup from the Intercable Racing team.
In the second race on Sunday, Mutschlechner gained two places at the start and moved up to seventh place. Due to an accident involving another driver, the race on the 5,419 meter long race track was stopped after the first lap. For this reason, only half the points from Qualifying 2 will be counted.
A good start
“The biggest change for me was the start. I was used to the flying start – now, like in Formula 1, there is a standing start. The competition is very strong, I still have a lot to learn. But the direction is right,” says the 20-year-old confidently.
At the season opener in Bahrain, Mutschlechner ended up in 8th and 6th place, in the rookie rankings he is in fourth place after four races and in ninth place in the overall standings. It continues in the new year on January 24th and 25th in Dubai.
